Scheduled volatility, published in advance.

Most of the violence in a trading week is announced weeks ahead of time. Statistical agencies and central banks publish on recurrence rules — the first Friday, the second Thursday, every Wednesday at half past — and those rules are the part you can plan against. This page collects the 40 recurring releases that reach the instruments FlowFX intends to quote, with the announced clock time in UTC and a short note on the mechanism that turns each number into a price move.

Recurrence rules and clock times describe the publication pattern each agency maintains. Agencies occasionally reschedule, and a national holiday can move a release by a day. Confirm any date you intend to trade around against the publishing agency’s own release calendar.

Method

Four habits that turn a schedule into a plan.

01

Read the recurrence rule, not the date

A release you can diary six months ahead is worth more than one you notice on the morning. Payrolls on the first Friday and inventories every Wednesday are structural facts about the week, and they let you decide position sizing before the schedule decides it for you.

02

Convert once, in UTC

Every time on this page is UTC. Converting from UTC to your own clock is one operation with one failure mode; converting from a local time in another country is two operations with two daylight-saving traps stacked on top of each other.

03

Map the release to the symbol you hold

A dollar release reaches every USD pair simultaneously, so a book that looks diversified across six pairs can hold one concentrated exposure to a single 13:30 print. Filter by affected market to see which of your instruments actually sit in the blast radius.

04

Decide before, not during

Whether you hold through a high-impact release is a position-sizing decision that belongs to the hours beforehand. Making it in the seconds afterwards, with a wider spread and a moving quote, is not a decision — it is a reaction.

What changes in the window

The release moves conditions, not just price.

A scheduled print does not only change the quote. It changes the cost of transacting, the reliability of a resting order and the capital the position consumes — all at once, and all in the same few seconds.

Spreads widen around scheduled prints

Liquidity providers reduce the size they quote when a known number is seconds away, so the raw book thins and the best bid-offer separates. This is a structural feature of the release window, not a platform fault.

Fills can land away from the shown price

When the quote gaps through your level rather than trading through it, a stop is executed at the next available price. Every scheduled event on this page is a candidate for that behaviour.

Margin requirements can be raised on schedule

Ahead of a known high-impact event, a broker may lift margin on affected symbols. Free margin available today is not a promise about free margin during a rate decision.

Keep exploring

The schedule is one input. Here are the others.
